Resume Writers Digest Create An Interesting Logo for Your Resume Writing Business

Resume Writers' Digest Create An Interesting Logo for Your Resume Writing Business I'm married to a graphic designer. So I'm accustomed to looking for -- and recognizing -- great design. Many years ago, when I started Resume Writers' Digest, I was the go-to source to check with before new resume writers named their resume business. My database of more than 4,000 resume writers was a good resource for checking to see if a business name had been taken. With the advent of the BeAResumeWriter.com member directory, I'm now getting a window into great resume writing business logos. Whether you have a free or paid account on BeAResumeWriter.com, you can upload your business logo as part of your directory listing. (If you're not a member of the site, or you're not logged in, you can't see the business logos. But log in as a free member and you can see them!) An interesting logo is often one of the keys to brand recognition. It's great if someone can see your logo and immediately feel connected to you and your resume writing business. That's tremendously powerful -- especially because the job search and seeking out a resume writer are intensely personal experiences. Making an emotional connection with your logo can immediately build interest, excitement, and trust. Almost every resume writing business can benefit from creating an interesting logo. Here are some tips and strategies to help you do just that. Relevance Consider the career services industry. The first thing to think about when you're creating a logo is that the images, colors, and fonts you use all need to be relevant to our industry. Creativity is one of the hallmarks of being a resume writer. So is professionalism. Please, please don't use Comic Sans font in your resume business logo! Just as an IT management company shouldn't use Zapf Chancery as their font, your resume business shouldn't use something as boring as Times New Roman in yours! Also consider images and graphics. Logos connected to writing tools, paper, and writing implements make sense. Check out these logos: (Tracey Kampes, Resume Success) (Norine Dagliano, ekm inspirations) Attention Grabbing Your logo will ideally grab your prospect's attention immediately -- in a good way. There are shocking and sometimes awful logos that grab your attention. However, generally that's not the goal. You want to make a strong positive impact. Eye catching simply means that it stands out from the other logos in your industry and on your website and marketing materials. Here's my business logo. We selected the color to be eye-catching. And the image of the light bulb evokes creativity and inspiration. Here's the new BeAResumeWriter.com logo: He also did a vertical version (for use with Facebook and Twitter): Consider how your logo will look both online AND offline. Easy to Read You might think this would be an obvious element to an interesting logo. Yet many logos are downright difficult to read. There are many factors that play a role in readability. They include the font and also the font size. Also, the background color and the color of the lettering are important. For example, yellow lettering on an orange background could be very difficult for most people to read. Ugh: Ugly: Simple An interesting logo doesn't need to be complicated. In fact, visually complicated images are often ignored. Simple, strong and clear logos tend to perform much better than trying to convey a complicated message. (Rosalind Kimber, Careers Boutique) Brand Image Also consider your brand image. Ideally your logo will match your brand image. For example, if your resume writing practice focuses on federal resumes, then you will ideally choose colors and images that support that brand. It wouldn't make sense to go with a gray logo with black lettering in this case. (Camille Carboneau Roberts, CC Career Services) Memorable Finally, an interesting logo is memorable. Think about the logos that are forever embedded in your mind. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Nike, Google, Harley Davidson, MTV, Gucci, Target, and Starbucks are all memorable logos that you can probably envision without too much effort. These logos are simple, memorable and they relate to the companyís brand and personality. In fact, they contribute to it. You can create your own logo with a little time and effort. There are very useful design programs online. If you're struggling to create your own business logo, consider hiring a professional. (But not my husband ... I've got plenty of projects lined up for him to work on!) Having a logo designed for $100-$300 can be a great investment in your business.

Heres how to do it, bit by bit. 1: Give every individual a marker pen and a flip-over outline. 2: Ask every individual to tear an entire in the piece of paper and afterward put it on like a rain coat. The least demanding path is to overlay the graph into quarters and detach one corner. 3: Once everybody is wearing their rain coat, give individuals the accompanying directions: ?Go around and compose on the backs of others. Compose the stuff you like and acknowledge about the individual. The stuff they progress admirably and the characteristics they have. 25 Best Resume Tips for 2014

25 Best Resume Tips for 2014 25 Best Resume Tips for 2014 The job search game is becoming increasingly competitive, and it isn’t going to change in 2014. If anything, it’s going to up the ante. Forget sitting around all day clicking APPLY to find a job. And while you’re at it, you can throw all those old resume rules right out the window. To help kick off your job search in the new year, I’ve constructed this expert list of my 25 best resume tips for 2014. Create a master resume and commit to keeping it updated. When you suddenly find yourself job searching, and you sit down to write your resume, it can be awfully difficult to recall all the numbers, figures, accomplishments, and successes you’ve had over the last 10-15 years of your career. It’s much easier to keep a log of it as it happens. Sure, it might take a couple of minutes a month to jot down your most notable achievements, and to keep a log of them; but when you sit down to write your resume or work with a professional resume writer, you’ll thank me. Consider creating a social media resume. Check out www.careercloud.com and review the information about social media resumes there. When you’re looking for a way to build, authenticate, and deliver your professional brand, this is one impressive and modern way to do it. Are you a do-it-yourselfer? If so, check out this step-by-step method for creating your own social media resume: http://mashable.com/2009/01/13/social-media-resume/ While you’re in your creative mode, think about an infographic resume. Would an infographic resume benefit you? The concept has been around for a couple of years, but it hasn’t been widely used by job search candidates. I, however, think it could be an interesting way to stand out from the crowd. Especially if you’re in a field where this type of resume would be appropriate to use. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it for more conservative types of positions such as banker or lawyer. Thinking outside the box … Since we’re already there, why don’t we jump out a little further. Your resume on Facebook? I found this interesting article that lists 10 trendsetting ways to create a resume. I figured I’d let you read the article yourself, rather than wasting valuable real estate here on the blog. One of the more interesting is #10â€"the ability to create a timeline resume within Facebook. Hmmmmm … http://thenextweb.com/lifehacks/2012/04/07/10-new-ways-to-build-a-kick-ass-digital-resume/ Get rid of the objective statement. I’m begging you, please … let it go!  Get a kick-butt branding statement and laser-focused career summary instead. That objective isn’t doing you any favors. Bring on the numbers. Going back to keeping a master resume … if you have one, adding in numbers should be no big deal. If you don’t, then start tracking those numbers now!  Quantify everything!  If you led a team, tell me how many people were on the team; if you saved money, tell me how much you saved. Grew revenue?   By how much?  Managed a budget?  Tell me how big the budget was. Always include a number! Focus on facts and figures. Making generalized statements within your resume accomplishes absolutely nothing except taking up space. Give me something specific and tangible about your career history. Remove two words from your resume: success and results. For more information on why and what to replace them with, check out this article: http://www.greatresumesfast.com/blog/2013/10/08/two-useless-words-every-job-seeker-loves-to-use-on-their-resume/ Answer three simple questions. Three simple questions will help you write a more concise and polished resume. Here’s a link to those three questions and how to incorporate them into your resume: http://www.greatresumesfast.com/blog/2013/12/03/3-simple-questions-to-help-you-write-a-better-resume/ Add that LinkedIn profile URL. Employers will go to LinkedIn to find out more about you (90% of them anyway). And that’s a high enough percentage for me. Make it easy for them to find you (and make sure they’re finding the right YOU on LinkedIn) by including your personal LinkedIn profile URL on your resume. Needs-based resume please! Long gone are the days of telling employers what you want and need (ahem … that objective statement that had BETTER NOT be on your resume!). Instead, review the job ad to see what the employer’s greatest needs are, and make sure your resume addresses your ability to meet those needs. Give your career summary impact. Use numbers, company names, and figures. It may be a “summary”, but just because it’s a summary doesn’t mean it has to be bland and boring and sound like everyone else’s. Use things unique to you to create more depth and impact in your career summary. High-profile companies or clients that you can nameâ€"include those. Managed lots of projects or big budgets?  Use those numbers and quantify in your summary. Cut the fluff. Oh, how I cannot stand resume fluff. Cut the content to the lowest common denominator. Make your words work for youâ€"and deliver the most bang for your buck. In other words, cut out the “team player”, “excellent communication/written skills”, and all those other overused terms and phrases that find their way into so many resumes. Use keywords in all the right places. Don’t be afraid to put keywords in your headline, branding statement, career summary, and work experience sections. Keywords aren’t just for the bulleted “key skills and core competencies” section of the resume. Call out those accomplishments. Have a career accomplishment or success you’re particularly proud of?  Create a key accomplishments section on your resume in the top third to really draw attention to the results you’re most proud of. Brand yourself. If you don’t, the employer will. Here’s a basic-level crash course in personal branding: http://mashable.com/2009/02/05/personal-branding-101/ Incorporate YOU. I see so many resumes that contain generic and vague statements. I cannot harp on this enough: Get rid of all the general terms and phrasesâ€"especially within your career summary. If you get six seconds to capture the hiring manager’s attention and stand out from the other applicants, and the first five lines of your resume read exactly the same as everyone else’s, then you’ve done absolutely nothing to set yourself apart. RUN from resume templates. Templates are cookie-cutter resumes that thousands of other job seekers are using. Again, not the best strategy when you’re trying to differentiate yourself from the others. Include a specific position title. At the top of your resume, include the specific position title you’re applying for, and any relevant keywords. This creates the connection between your experience and the opening. Commit to customization.  Make a commitment to customize your resume as you apply for each opening. It could be as simple as changing the position title or job target at the top of your resume to removing irrelevant keywords. The more you tailor the resume to the specific position, the better your chances are of it getting you an interview. Reflect on past achievements. Take time to think about what you’ve accomplished in your career, and quantify it when and where possible. To help jog your memory, think about challenges you’ve faced during your tenure, how you addressed those challenges, and what the outcomes were. Typically, this great exercise will help you to think of two or three key successes that will work well on your resume. Put those achievements in context. Once you’ve thought about those great achievements, put them in the context of how they relate to the position you’re applying for. Make the connection between what you can bring to the table (your past wins) and what the employer needs right now. Nix the common resume myths. The false notion that a resume can be only one page long or no one will bother to read it is a myth. So are the misconceptions that you need to include an objective statement, that you have to include every job you’ve ever hadâ€"even back to the ’80s, and that you have to have a degree to get a job. What’s not a myth is that hiring managers spend only about six seconds on their initial resume reviews; so needless to say, the top third of your resume had better look really great. Proofread the heck out of itâ€"and then get three friends to do the same. Don’t ask them for their opinions about what it should look or sound likeâ€"unless they’re a recruiter or a resume expert. Just ask them to review it for any typos or spelling errors that you may have overlooked. Nothing gets your resume thrown in the trash can more quickly than a bunch of errors because you neglected to proofread. **An extra tip from one of the great writers on my team, Daryn Edelman, CPRW** Your Resume is Not an Autobiography. One of the most common mistakes people make who write their own resume is that they view their resume as an autobiography.   A resume must be viewed as a marketing document; with you being the product. Daryn Edelman, CPRW Wordle it! Ever heard of www.wordle.net?  It’s this great word cloud creator, and you can use it to find the most common words contained within some specific text. I suggest you use Wordle to check job ads and see the keywords that pop up most often. Then use this information to ensure your resume has the right keywords for the position. Additionally, you could use Wordle on your resume and LinkedIn profile. This serves to ensure you have the right keywords within your resume and your LinkedIn profile. I’ll give you an example: I’ve optimized my LinkedIn profile for the keyword “executive resume writer”. Below is a word cloud that came up when I input the text from my LinkedIn profile to test it out: I hope that you can see how valuable this tool is for providing you with a visualization of the keyword optimization of your resume and LinkedIn profileâ€"and for discovering the most important keywords within a job ad. While not an all-inclusive list of resume tips (and I actually provided 26 one to grow on in 2014), my attempt here was to compile a list of the resume tips I felt were most important going in to 2014. Don’t feel as though you have to tackle all of these tips at once. Choose a few of them, and work on themâ€"and after you’ve addressed those, move on to others. WANT TO WORK WITH US? Are You Truly Committed To Your New Years Resolutions - Work It Daily

Are You Truly Committed To Your New Year's Resolutions - Work It Daily An old buddy of mine as of late sent me his New Year's goals: Be here at this point. Keep it genuine. Attempt to answer email speedily. I was shocked by number three. Initially, it was the one in particular that necessary explicit activity, and I asked why he would pick returning messages over the various significant moves to make in this world, and over an increasingly broad promise to Keep right up front and ordinary contact with individuals critical to me or Make a move rapidly on things of significance. Considerably more than that, in any case, I was struck by the addition of Attempt. Is Trying Lying? I have gone through the most recent 10 years or so decreasing the frequency of attempt in my spoken and composed interchanges. In a ladies' strengthening program I was educated, Attempting is lying. In a totally unique course, the teacher had somebody hold a tissue confine the air and stated, Attempt to drop the tissue box. The individual dropped the tissue box, and was met with, No, you just dropped the tissue box. I advised you to attempt to drop the tissue box. In another course, an alternate teacher did likewise work out, requesting that a member Attempt to get that seat. Trying to get it seemed as though clutching the seat and professing to get it yet not really doing it. Attempting to accomplish something, as delineated in these models, is in the same class as not doing the thing by any means. You're not doing it, and you're not doing it. Attempting leaves you in an in the middle of spot that, in my comprehension, is at last frail and inadequate. Reasons, Excuses We as individuals regularly blame difficult. Have you completed that venture? No... in any case, I attempted! I simply continued getting diverted. Have you lost the weight you said you would? No... however, I attempted. Why isn't your relationship going the manner in which you need it to? I don't have the foggiest idea... I'm making a decent attempt to make it work. We make statements like I'll attempt to be there on schedule so in case we're not on time we haven't broken a guarantee. We people are so slippery! At last, a decision is required. Possibly you do it or you don't. On the off chance that you don't do it, I accept the most impressive position is to assume liability that you didn't do it. On the off chance that you're despite everything focused on an outcome, at that point accomplish something different that attempts to get that outcome. As another astute individual called attention to, the best approach to accomplish any objective in life is to continue making a move until you accomplish it. Sounds so straightforward isn't that right? Sympathy Is Key My New Year's goals companion couldn't help contradicting my interpretation of endeavoring. He expressed, I attest the significance of expressing, 'I will attempt.' It resembles saying, 'I plan... .' It communicates something specific â€" to myself as well as other people â€" about how I am sorting out my profound energies. When I inquired as to why he didn't state Attempt for his different goals, he reacted, ... It's the just one of the three that doesn't come to me normally. So I should invest more energy. (He additionally referenced if following number three were to repudiate number one and additionally number two, he would decide not to follow number three. We have all observed the negative results of indiscreet or habitual messaging!) I comprehend the estimation of empathy, and I comprehend we once in a while experience arranges in our degree of responsibility to an objective. Maybe a delicate passage (like a guarantee to attempt) can be helpful for taking on guarantees we don't have the foggiest idea whether we will keep. Absolutely, in the event that we don't meet one of our guarantees, it doesn't assist with thrashing ourselves about it. Utilizing attempt lets us succeed in any event, when we fall flat. In any case, wouldn't we be able to have sympathy regardless of whether we outline our guarantees as outright? In the event that I resolve to answer email expeditiously rather than to attempt to do as such, and afterward I don't answer immediately, I may be enabled by recognizing I didn't do it, taking a gander at why I didn't do it, and, if fitting, making another guarantee or doing it an alternate path next time. To me, that is keeping it genuine. Genuineness â€" The Best Policy New Year's goals are famously not kept, and I wonder if the explanation is individuals put a quiet, inferred Attempt before all of them. In the event that we really resolve to accomplish something, as opposed to attempt to do it, we carry on with an all the more remarkable life and one where results will appear with greater unwavering quality. At any rate my companion put attempt where it could be seen, rather than imagining something was genuine that was most certainly not. A direct affirmation of one's propensity toward frailty may be more impressive than having attempting live in the implied. In any event with a fair guarantee, there's space to develop. At long last, we should each pick the language and goal that work for us, in administration of satisfying our most prominent guarantees and goals. Appreciate this article?
